As one of my best highlights of Kathmandu, I recommend everyone to visit Swayambhunath Stupa, known as Monkey Temple also. It is an ancient religious site located on the top of a steep hill in the Kathmandu Valley and boasts phenomenal views of the city below. There are various ways to get on to the top, among them it’s 365 step ascent to the top with many statues of Buddha is the best. Its definitely challenging to reach the top via 365 steps but Buddhists believe that if we are able to walk up to he hill via 365 steps it will wash away all the sins we have done before. Though we can see various images of deities and monkeys as well.
Once you arrive at the top you will be greeted by a stupa with the beautiful eyes of Buddha. There are many of these stupas around Kathmandu. The stupa in Boudha is much more impressive in and bigger in size, The beauty of this stupa is added more by the remarkable number of other temples and shrines are also situated on the site as well as a Tibetan monastery. Walking inside the green pathway by enjoy seeing monkeys to reach the top itself is an amazing experience to have.
Moreover, three big statues of Shakyamuni Buddha, Padmashamvaba and Manjushree from the 17th century. The two main festivals celebrated at Swayambhunath are Buddha Jayanti and Losar, during these times, many pilgrims visit the temple and the monks create a lotus pattern on the stupa with saffron-colored paint. The best season to visit is Spring.
